The task for the making of said rodent trap vessel was at first given in an Engineering and Construction course. The motivation behind this venture is to make a moving water vehicle that is fueled distinctly by the vitality put away in the spring from a mouse trap. The accompanying confinements will be set up: a standard mousetrap, the spring on the mousetrap will be the sole force source, the spring on the mousetrap will be cut and twisted, yet no warmth rewarded or artificially adjustment will happen, the most extreme length of the vessel will be 18’ (this does exclude the switch arm), all materials utilized will be non-unsafe, and the vehicle will act naturally beginning and steer itself. Paul Cezanne, Pines And Rocks Essay

Paul Cezanne, Pines and Rocks, 1896-99 Oil on Canvas Museum of Modern Art This basic artistic creation of a little, personal scene is a genuine case of Paul Cezanne’s dominance of the impressionist style. The scene is of a rough way, perhaps a climbing trail on a mountain, and a couple of trees that cloak the sky in patches of leaves. Cezanne’s strategy for painting is fairly fascinating, in that he paints each stroke like a plate of shading, making a covering mosaic. The palette he picked is likewise surprising with brilliant, nearly childish shades of color that give a fundamental feeling of authenticity to the artistic creation. Taking a gander at Cezanne’s work regularly makes one miracle if impressionism is an investigation of light being thrown on objects or of life being thrown out from the article. The general â€Å"feel† of an artistic creation is regularly dictated by the way each brushstroke is applied to the canvas. Cezanne’s work takes after a mosaic piece, with the exception of his squares of shading are intermixed and cover one another. Each brushstroke lays on its own plane in the painted space, giving the work of art a feeling of profundity one of a kind to the three-dimensional data of the trees off out yonder and the rocks on the ground. The thick, dull framework of the trees and shakes additionally add profundity to the piece, isolating the concealed path from the brilliant late morning sky. Utilizing a little creative mind, one can nearly take out individual leaves from the green and earthy colored patches of paint used to speak to them. Cezanne’s decision of shading is remarkable in communicating the specific mind-set in a scene, as appeared in this canvas. A rich mix of purples, reds, and browns in the stones and tree trunks pleasantly praises the splendid blue sky and green foliage. The dull, quieted tones of the stones give weight and gravity to the scene while the light and dim greens appear to move in the breezes of the sky blue foundation. Lighting and shadows are additionally very much done to include the last dash of profundity to the piece.

Thirty Seconds of Silence free essay sample

Nothing. Staring into the eyes of my scene partner, I frantically beat against the black curtain that had suddenly closed over my brain. â€Å"But the possibility for a cure was left open!† my partner repeats, wide-eyed and panicked. Nothing. The seconds seem like hours. This mistake is crucial. This mistake is devastating. Once again: â€Å"The possibility for a cure was left open †¦.† Nothing. Nothing can ruin everything. Here, at the national competition of National History Day, my group is up against historical performances from 49 other states and several countries. And my failure can put an end to eight months of nonstop research and rehearsal. My failure can make it all worthless. Nothing. I have been acting since I was six. Never before have I completely forgotten a line during a performance. I have four partners who have put their hearts and souls into this project depending on me, four people who worked tirelessly with me for the entire school year to get primary interviews, gather sources, and rehearse the performance over and over – and this is when I decide to draw a blank. We will write a custom essay sample on Thirty Seconds of Silence or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Finally my line comes to me. Not from behind that damn black curtain, but from behind our carefully constructed set. From my best friend. â€Å"A consequence of that belief!† she shouts, knowing, as only she can, exactly what I need to continue the performance. â€Å"A consequence of that belief is that people continued to search for a cure to a disease that didnt exist †¦.† The curtain in my mind lifts and I am back, reciting the lines exactly as we had rehearsed. After the final bow and our interview with the judges, there is nothing left to do but ask myself what went wrong. The question tortured me for months. The answer? Nothing. I made a mistake, one that I could not have predicted or avoided. It may have seemed disastrous at the time, but it helped me realize something that many people are forced to learn in places far from the sheltered suburbia I call home. Nothing can ruin everything. No mistake or hardship can stop the world from turning, and dwelling on my mistakes will do no good unless I take the time to learn from them. There are calamities far worse than forgetting a line in a competition. I did not commit a felony, kill an innocent person, or lose a loved one. We may not have moved on to the final round of competition, but we did become experts on a topic that we were extremely passionate about, and we were able to show that commitment to our judges and peers despite the few seconds of silence. I went on to compete in National History Day for the rest of high school, getting to the national level three times and placing at the state level four times. Each year brought with it lessons in research, time management, and perseverance. Yet none of it affected me quite as much as those few seconds of silence that June of ninth grade. Since then I have failed my first test, gotten my first B+ on a report card, had three actors drop out of the show I was directing the day before the performance, and gone through numerous break-ups, breakdowns, and fall-outs. Those few seconds followed me, reminding me every day that I am not the sum of my mistakes, but rather the sum of the lessons I gain from them. Those few seconds of silence should not and will not define my National History Day experience, just as a missed homework assignment, a bad test grade, or a forgotten line will not define me.

Is Prospero a power obsessed tyrant or an egalitarian Essay Example

Is Prospero a power obsessed tyrant or an egalitarian? Paper The fact that Miranda says that Prospero, left me to a bootless inquisition, showing that Prospero has complete power over her life as he is the only person who can actually tell her who she is. Bootless, shows that Miranda finds the knowledge completely useless. This shows that Prospero has complete control over what he wants Miranda to know, and is being autocratic in having this power. Prospero manipulates the characters in to doing what he wants. His main method is the use of magic. Prospero conjures the tempest which eventually brings Ferdinand, Mirandas future lover, to the island. He has done this so that he can regain his kingdom by using Ferdinand as a link to the Dukedom. By using Miranda and Ferdinand in this way, Prospero is treating them like slaves, which is similar to how he treats Ariel and Caliban. By gaining complete control this way, Prospero is being autocratic, as he has used neither for nor fair means to gain this control. Prospero longs for his dukedom back, and in my opinion has the right to try and regain power. Prosperos main reason for losing control was that he had to much trust in his brother, Antonio. The fact that Prospero conjured the tempest and brought Antonio to the island, shows that he is obviously hell bent on revenge. This gives the opinion that Prosperos view on just is an eye for an eye. Although this seems equal, as though Prospero wants to overthrow Antonio like Antonio overthrew Prospero, we know that Prosperos view of justice is unbalanced as he in turn, overthrew Caliban. Again, this shows that Prospero is not an egalitarian. The fact that he has used magic to try and regain his kingdom can also prove this. Antonio did not use magic but used Prospero to gain the dukedom. We will write a custom essay sample on Is Prospero a power obsessed tyrant or an egalitarian? specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now We will write a custom essay sample on Is Prospero a power obsessed tyrant or an egalitarian? specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer We will write a custom essay sample on Is Prospero a power obsessed tyrant or an egalitarian? specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer If Prospero was an egalitarian, he would try to use Antonio to get his dukedom back fairly. All of these points can argue that Prospero is neither an egalitarian, nor a power obsessed tyrant. Prospero may use unethical means such as imprisonment to gain power; however a true tyrant uses force and death to gain control, something Prospero did not use. He manipulates people through magic and mental knowledge to get what he wants. By using magic to gain control this gives Prospero an unfair advantage as he is the only possessor of this power. By using this advantage Prospero is definitely not an egalitarian. Towards the end of the story, it is more apparent that Prospero is more autocratic in his ruling. At the end of The Tempest, Prospero forgives everyone on the island. This obviously shows Prospero to be kinder than we may have thought prior to the event. By forgiving everyone, this rules out whether Prospero is an egalitarian or a tyrant. A tyrant would never forgive an enemy, so therefore Prospero cannot be a tyrant. If he was a tyrant, Prospero would have killed his enemies. An egalitarian would always try to balance the scales of justice. By forgiving, Prospero has given up seeking revenge and cannot be an egalitarian. A true egalitarian would have equalled the injustice put upon him. From these points, it is my opinion that Prospero can be described as an autocrat. He controls with complete power without the use of fear, murder or equality, so is therefore an autocrat. I believe that this term describes Prospero accurately. He does have complete control over the island and all the character and can therefore be described as an autocrat. Prospero says to Miranda, so safely ordered, that there is no soul. Prospero tries to protect Miranda by saying that some situations are more acceptable than they really are. These are his thought and he is trying to make Miranda believe what he thinks. This shows a domineering side to Prospero as he likes everyone to abide by what he believes. He is obviously domineering towards Caliban and Ariel as well. He imprisons them both so that he can have complete control over them. Finally, he is domineering toward all the character he brings to the island as he uses his magic to gain complete control over them. This shows that he is obviously power obsessed and likes to have a complete hold over everyone. Overall, the points explore tend to disprove that Prospero is an egalitarian or a power obsessed tyrant. What I do believe is that Prospero is an autocrat obsessed with keeping everyone under his control. How to Read an Italian Menu

How to Read an Italian Menu If you’ve been to northern regions, like Milan, and the south of Italy, like Cosenza, you know that the items on restaurant menus won’t be similar and, depending on where you’ve chosen to eat, may be written in an Italian that isn’t so standard. That’s because each region of Italy, and oftentimes, individual cities, have their own piatti tipici, or traditional dishes. What’s more, sometimes the same thing can be called different things from the north to the south, like how the popularly-known is called schiacciata in Tuscany. Despite the variations you will most definitely encounter, there are some standards that you can learn about in advance when it comes to eating in Italy, and more specifically, being able to read an Italian menu. In this quick guide, we’ll go through the types of restaurants in Italy, how make a reservation, the order of Italian dishes during a meal, how to ask for the bill, and a few other cultural tidbits that may be useful for you. Types of Restaurants in Italy Autogrill - Roadside snack bar Pizza al taglio - Shop that sells slices of pizza cut by how much you want. Tavola calda - Informal restaurant, like a cafeteria as you often order buffet-style. Osteria - Informal restaurant, like a diner. Trattoria - Medium-priced restaurant that’s often family-run. Ristorante - Restaurant. You can learn some vocabulary that’s specific  to the dining experience here. If you want to learn some phrases that will help you find the most authentic restaurants and get the best recommendations, explore our article on Italian phrases thatll allow you to experience authentic Italian food. How to Make a Reservation While it’s not common practice to make reservations at all restaurants in Italy, it is recommended at places that tend to be busier or are the pià ¹ gettonate, the most popular. Youll, of course, have to know some common Italian phrases and how to say the time in Italian for this. To make a reservation for two people at 8:00 PM, use this phrase: Vorrei fare una prenotazione per due, alle otto. Order of Italian Dishes In Italy, dishes are usually served on separate plates in a specific order. In order of appearance on a typical menu there is: Lantipasto, which literally means before the meal and includes hot and cold appetizers, such as crostini  and  bruschetta.Il primo, or first course usually consisting soup.Il secondo, or second course, and is the main course.Il contorno, or side dish, which consists of vegetables such as (eggplant), (spinach), or (mixed salad).Il dolce, or dessert, which includes such favorite sweets as  tiramisà ¹, torta della nonna  (custard shortbread pie), or (custard of egg yolks with wine and brandy). Get the Bill (Or Should You Leave a Tip?) To ask for the bill, say: Il conto, per favore. Unless you ask, it’s not likely that they’ll bring the check to you. When it comes to tipping, by Italian law, gratuity is included in the bill, and extra tipping isnt necessary. Remember that a coperto - a cover charge - is included as well. If the service warrants it, feel free to leave your waiter a little extra. If you want the waiter to keep the change, say: Tenga pure il resto. Extra Tips In Italy, those milky concoctions - cappuccino and caffà ¨ latte - are consumed only at breakfast, so before 11 AM.Al dente means to the tooth, or slightly chewy. It is used to describe pasta and rice. The inside should be somewhat crisp-tender.Italians often say Buon appetito! or Enjoy your meal when the first course is served, and Salute! or To your health when toasting with a drink. Most likely you will have to purchase water. You’ll have a choice between bubbly water - frizzante or con gas - or regular water - liscia or naturale.

With reference to Bourdieus theory of distinction and other relevant Essay

With reference to Bourdieus theory of distinction and other relevant theorists on social class, give a detailed example of how a specific habitus shapes consumer behaviour - Essay Example Consumers who do not have economic capital are not likely to become ‘choosers’ in relation to consumer settings; their choice will depend on what they can pay for.2 Capital, similar to habitus, results in particular values and behaviour and has a tendency to prevent others in specific situations. Bourdieu argues that class position is not rooted loosely in the ownership or non-ownership of means of production (e.g. capital, labour) just like in Marxist materialistic explanations of class.3 He uses the ideas of Weber, which enables him to classify various classes and class segments in a hierarchical scheme instead of viewing class as two classes opposed to each other, even though he keeps the idea of class struggle.4 Bourdieu views class as shaped by the ownership of varying sums of different types of capital. Nevertheless, Bourdieu, contrary to Marx, who simply took into consideration economic capital, expands the notion of capital to other social domains, which he claims are themselves social outcomes which are mingled and which can be utilised to generate more capital.5 Of such, symbolic capital and cultural capital are the most important for this paper. This essay gives a detailed example of how class habitus shapes consumer behaviour, particularly food preferences and co nsumption patterns, using Bourdieu’s theory of distinction and other theories of social class. If Bourdieu identifies an obvious relationship between class and consumer behaviour, he also views his theory as different from an income model. Although he recognises that a great deal of consumer behaviour is related to income levels, Bourdieu argues that this connection is arbitrated by the nature of habitus. He says that â€Å"income tends to be credited with a causal efficacy which it in fact only exerts in association with the habitus it has produced†.6 The superiority of habitus over mere amount of cash in influencing consumer

Mysticism in Hinduism Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Mysticism in Hinduism - Essay Example The essay "Mysticism in Hinduism" talks about the philosophy of Hinduism as an ideal model for understanding the world. The study of mysticism will bring joy to our heart and self-realization to our life. However, we should not give a definition to it and should not try to interpret it, because we will anyway fail. We receive the experience from the science, scientific discovery, history, philosophy, religion. In these experiences, we see the presence of subject and object, essence and existence, vision and sight. But the mystical experience that is the momentary unanimity overcomes all the similar discrepancies. Mystical experience is the unity with something â€Å"out of limits† that always remains inexpressible. It is a valuable experience that can’t and should be rejected. Maya is the illusiveness of existence and the Universe. While Brahman is the only reality, all the rest is the illusion. An ignorant individual can’t see the reality and perceives only the illusory world of suffering. The salvation is received through realization. Brahman is the supreme reality, the soul of the world without any form. It can’t be realized and described; it is a creation and a creator at the same time. The most important achievement for Hinduism is to realize that he is Brahman and he and the Universe is a single whole. We can argue upon the statement of Shankara â€Å"If the universe is true, let it then be perceived in the state of deep sleep also. As it is not at all perceived, it must be unreal and false, like dreams†.

The Use of X-Rays in Dentistry Essay Example for Free

The Use of X-Rays in Dentistry Essay Dentistry is increasingly becoming a major part of people lives in today’s society, being taken for granted and often little thought about. As technologies advance treatment becomes cheaper, quicker, and the outcome becomes more aesthetically pleasing and longer lasting. As braces, dentures, crowns, procedures and techniques change and improve at an alarming rate, one aspect has remained the same for a longer period of time. This is the use of X-Rays. X-Rays have been used in dentistry since the mid 1900’s, and continue to be used in the same way today. They are an effective way of finding and identifying various oral problems, allowing for early prognosis and prevention of more serious issues. How is an x-ray produced? Diagram showing a Dental x-ray tube. In a dental (and most other uses of x-rays including all medical uses) x-ray tube, x-rays are formed as electrons from a hot wire filament are accelerated onto a target anode. A high-voltage unit is used to set the anode at a large positive potential compared to the negatively charged filament. The electrons are pulled onto the anode at very high speeds and are suddenly decelerated on impact. As this impact occurs, some of the kinetic energy is converted into electromagnetic energy, as x-rays. This means that the anode therefore emits x-rays as a result of being smashed with high-energy electrons. The x-rays spread out from the focal spot, through the tube window and onto the region to be examined. How is an image formed? X-ray films that are used in dental radiography consist on an emulsion/gelatine mix containing chemicals that are sensitive to x-ray radiation. This is a silver halide either bromide or chloride. The emulsion/gelatine mix and their suspension is set onto a flexible, transparent tinted blue base. Emulsion is used in all types of analogue photography, but the type used in x-ray photography is of a different kind to that used in light photography. The emulsion is usually coated on both sides of the base in layers around 0. 1mm thick. As both sides of the base are coated, there is twice the amount of radiation sensitive silver halide, and so the speed at which an image is produced is increased significantly. Another way to increase the speed of producing an image would be to just have one side with a larger thickness of emulsion. This however would slow down the developing, fixing and drying stage, meaning taking x-rays would take an unreasonable amount of time. Some x-rays requiring more detail use film with emulsion on one side only. When x-rays, gamma rays, or light strike the grains of the sensitive silver halide in the emulsion, some of the halide (Br- or Cl-)  ions are released and captured by the silver (Ag+)ions. This chemical change is of such a small nature that it cannot be detected by ordinary physical methods and is called a latent (meaning hidden) image. However, the exposed grains are now more sensitive to the reduction process which happens during development of the film. When exposed to a chemical solution (the ‘developer’), and the reaction results in the formation of black, metallic silver. It is this silver, suspended in the emulsion-gelatine on both sides of the base that creates an image. Seeing things with X-Rays Different materials have different properties, including x-ray absorption ability. This is exactly the same with body parts, especially teeth. Radiation passes through skin the easiest, followed by the guns and soft tissue. These parts show up as the very darkest areas on an x-ray. Harder tissues absorb and black more radiation from hitting the film and so show up as much lighter areas. Metal implants, fillings and crowns (most artificial features) show up as the brightest white. The different depths of materials is also shown, nerve endings and dentine contours being visible on most developed films. This image shows that a root canal procedure has been successfully completed, meaning less time and money is wasted fixing procedures that have failed. Also visible is an amalgam filling (Brightest white) Measuring Radiation The Sievert The  sievert  (Sv) is the  International System of Units  (SI)  derived unit  of  equivalent radiation dose,  effective dose, and  committed dose. Quantities that are measured in sieverts are designed to represent the  stochastic  biological effects of  ionizing radiation. The sievert should not be used to express the unmodified  absorbed dose  of radiation energy, which is a clear physical quantity measured in  Grays. To enable consideration of biological effects, further calculations must be performed to convert absorbed dose into effective dose, the details of which depend on the biological context. This can be far more complicated than just multiplying by a weighting factor. The sievert is a fundamental part in  radiation dosimetry, and is named after  Rolf Maximilian Sievert, a  Swedish  medical physicist renowned for work on radiation dosage measurement and research into the biological effects of radiation. One sievert equals 100  rem, an older unit of measurement still used in many areas and by older generations of practitioners. One sievert carries with it a 5. 5% chance of eventually developing cancer. Doses greater than one sievert received over a short time period are likely to cause  radiation poisoning, possibly leading to death within weeks. This is a major risk considered in dental use as many doses of radiation could be received during a day in surgery.

Mythology Of Indian Dance :: essays research papers

Like many Indian arts, Indian dance also has its root in religion. Without the religious and cultural background of India, the growth and beauty of Indian dance is not possible. In ‘Natya Shastra’, there is a small story about the origin of Indian dance. According to Hindu mythology, dance first existed in heaven. There was always a constant conflict between the Asuras and the Devas for wealth and power. The Devas were tired of the Asuras’ greediness and jealousy.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  It was during this long period of tedium that all the Devas approached Lord Indra too find good ways and means of entertainment. Lord Indra, who was also tired of the Asuras, approached Lord Brahma (believed to be the creator of the Universe) and asked him to help them. They made a request to Lord Brahma that this method of entertainment should be pleasing to both the eye as well as the ear, and that it should be enjoyed by the masses of both higher and lower classes. Lord Brahma gave a long thought to the request of Lord Indra and finally decided to help them.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Lord Brahma went into a state of deep meditation. He called to mind the four Vedas. Vedas are the earliest scriptures of the Hindus. He distilled the essence from each of the Vedas. From ‘Rigveda’, he derived the words, from ‘Sama Veda’, he derived the music, from ‘Yojurve Veda’, the code of gesture and from ‘Atherva Veda’, the element of sentiment or flavor. He blended all of these ingredients and added his own divine genious. Thus, he created an entirely new activity. Brahma named this activity ‘Natya’, which was later renamed ‘Natya Veda’.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Brahma had simply created a technique, but someone was needed for putting it into practice. Lord Brahma sought the cooperation of Bharat, a trusted sage. Bharat, with the help of his sons, started working. Vishvakarma, the supreme architect of heaven, then created a splendid theater in the hall of India’s court for the performance. Bharat told Brahma that certain characters of the dance sequences could only be performed by women. Brahma solved the problem by creating twenty-three beautiful ‘Apsaras’.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  All of the preparations were made accordingly, and for the very first time, the art of ‘Natya’ was performed before an audience of Devas and Asuras. In this Natya, the Devas were portrayed as victorious and the Asuras as losers. The Asuras (demons) got angry and rose in protest and threatened even worse consequences.

Lord of the Flies Thesis Paper

Being stranded on an island can be a life or death struggle. It brings up new challenges and self discovery. When a group of young boys get stranded on an island together with no adults, they must learn to live and survive as a community. Not only must they worry about food and shelter, but they also have to worry about each other and discover what it takes to work together. But what happens when the community they have built starts to fall apart? In Golding’s Novel, Lord of the Flies, the contrasting literary themes of civilization versus savagery are illustrated through the use of symbols, dialogue, and visual imagery. Golding uses many symbols throughout his novel to illustrate the contrasting themes of civilization versus savagery. In this novel, the use of the conch represents civilization through unity and order. When the boys first land on the island Ralph uses the conch to join everyone together. â€Å"Signs of life were visible now on the beach. The sand, trembling ben eath the heat haze, concealed many figures in its miles of length; boys were making their way to the platform†¦Ã¢â‚¬ (Golding 18). This shows that at the beginning, the conch automatically brought everyone together, and joined them as a community. Later in the story, the lord of the flies represents savagery by symbolizing chaos and disorder. After the boys kill a pig, they leave the head as on offering to the imagined beast. As Simon begins talking to the head, it tells him that it itself is the beast.Later, Ralph encounters the skull of the pig. â€Å"A sick fear and rage swept him. Fiercely he hit out at the filthy thing in front of him that bobbed like a toy and came back, still grinning into his face, so that he lashed and cried out in loathing. † (Golding 185). This shows that the lord of the flies brings out the beast in the children themselves, and shows that all along, they in fact were their own beast. Golding also uses pieces of dialogue to illustrate the co ntrasting themes of civilization versus savagery. In the very beginning, Piggy proves to be the most knowledgeable of the group by trying to keep them civilized and orderly. When the group is talking about building a signal fire to be rescued, Piggy says, â€Å"’How can you expect to be rescued if you don’t put first things first and act proper? ’† (Golding 45). This shows that from the very beginning Piggy thinks there should be order and a clear plan for anything successful to happen on the island. Also around this time, the theme of savagery through dialogue begins with Jack. After hunting for the first time, Jack explains to Ralph that he sent his group back while he continued to hunt by himself. â€Å"’I went on,’ said Jack. ‘I let them go. I had to go to go on. I—‘ He tried to convey the compulsion to track down and kill that was swallowing him up. ‘I went on. I thought by myself—‘ The madness came into his eyes again. ‘I thought I might kill. ’† (Golding 51). This is the beginning of Jack’s transformation from civilized to savage. At this time, killing becomes his priority over all else.Lastly, Golding uses visual imagery throughout his novel to illustrate the contrasting themes of civilization versus savagery. In the beginning, Golding uses visual imagery to represent civilization when Ralph uses the conch to unite everyone together. â€Å"At last Ralph ceased to blow and sat there, the conch trailing from one hand, his head bowed on his knees. As the echoes died away so did the laughter, and there was silence. † (Golding 19). This shows that at the beginning, everyone came together in a civilized manner and was silent so that they could listen to the further conversations that were had.Later, Golding uses visual imagery to represent savagery during the killing of Simon. â€Å"The beast struggled forward, broke the ring, and fell over the st eep edge of the rock to the sand by the water. At once the crowd surged after it, poured down the rock, leapt on to the beast, screamed, struck, bit, tore. There were no words, and no movements but the tearing of teeth and claws. † (Golding 153). This shows that by this point, the only thing the boys cared about was hunting and they would hunt anything they could. This act was only the beginning of murder in this story, and later led to the murder of other boys. In Golding’s Novel, Lord of the Flies, the contrasting literary themes of civilization versus savagery are illustrated through the use of symbols, dialogue, and visual imagery. Though in the beginning many things joined the boys together on the island, in the end, things tore them apart more than could be recovered. Overall, this book conveys the collapse of society in the world through chaos, cruelty, and the lack of leadership and order.

Populist Ideas Spread Through All Of Latin America

In the past couple of decades, populist ideas spread through all of Latin America. First, Cuba adopted these ideals with the arrival of Fidel Castro to power in 1959. Then, Hugo R. Chavez adopted Cuban ideals in Venezuela in 1998. Since Venezuela adopted populism, it spread quickly throughout countries in South America. All of the countries that adopted populism deteriorated throughout the years reaching a point of social unrest. Populist governments like Chavism are prejudiced to the country and its citizens. In Venezuela, Chavism led to ridiculous crime rates, huge monetary devaluation, corruption inside the government, famine, and social unhappiness. As stated by the article â€Å"A Political Theory of Populism†, populism is â€Å"a democratic discourse that relies on the idea of a popular will and struggle between  ´the people ´ and  ´the elite ´Ã¢â‚¬â€ then Chavismo is clearly a populist phenomenon† (Acemoglu 1). Populism is the shortcut that the government uses to play with the passions, illusions, and ideals of its citizens with the purpose of promoting what is impossible and taking advantage of people’s misery. Populist governments avoid using reason and logic when making decisions and they play with the basic necessities of people to simply impose a dictatorship. The effects of populism in a country are devastating and you can observe the deterioration of Venezuela throughout the seventeen years of Chavism.
